About Koalas:

Koalas are arboreal marsupials native to Australia, spending most of their lives in eucalyptus trees. Despite being called "koala bears," they're not bears at all—they're marsupials related to kangaroos and wombats! Koalas sleep up to 20 hours per day to conserve energy, as their diet of eucalyptus leaves is very low in nutrition and difficult to digest. They eat about 2.5 pounds of eucalyptus leaves daily, choosing from only about 30 of the 600+ eucalyptus species. Koalas have specialized digestive systems with an extra-long cecum (up to 6.5 feet!) that helps break down the toxic compounds in eucalyptus leaves. Despite their cuddly appearance, koalas have sharp claws and strong limbs perfectly adapted for climbing and gripping branches. They rarely drink water, getting most moisture from eucalyptus leaves—"koala" means "no drink" in an Aboriginal language! Baby koalas (joeys) are born tiny (about the size of a jellybean!) and spend about six months in their mother's pouch before riding on her back for another six months. Koalas are vulnerable due to habitat loss, disease, and climate change. They're symbols of Australian wildlife and conservation!

Manufactured in China. CollectA celebrates the unique wildlife of Australia and marsupial conservation. Jack's has a long standing history of being a Blue Ribbon Breyer dealer since 1994. Ages 3+
